Which ethnicity would you choose if you were in this position?

If you had a kid with a guy who was from a different country/culture than you would you choose to name your kid a name from your culture or his? Explain

Answer

It depends. I'm totally for naming them after another culture, I love unique names.

But some names are just a bad idea. You still want it to be relatively easy to pronounce or read. So that your child isn't humiliated by everyone messing up their name. (I grew up with a name that was a pain in the ass. I resented my parents hardcore and ended up getting it legally changed because I hated it so much. I didn't hate the name I just hated it always being mispronounced and made fun of).

So you don't want to give them some long difficult name. If their culture has a name that is a good middle ground between unique and ease of understanding - then hell yeah I'd do the other cultures name and I'd likely even prefer it to my own culture.

You could also do both. A first name from one culture and a middle name from another.

In my culture, we give the American name as their first name and then the culture name as the middle name.
